Gunasheela Hospital is the quaternary level healthcare facility doing pioneering work in the field of reproductive medicine. It is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science and JSS University, Mysore and future fertility, Australia. The Institute is registered under not-for-profit trust. Courses are conducted on regular basis for eligible candidates under various programs and courses.

Dr. Sulochana-gunasheela

The Gunasheela Surgical & Maternity Home establishes in the year 1975 by the late Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela and Dr. Mavalli Gunasheela, with the focus to be the best maternity hospital to bring in the bundle of joy into the world. Further after a successfully developing the Maternity hospital for 10 years, Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela studied, practiced and specialised in Assisted Reproductive Technology at John Hopkins Hospital at Baltimore, USA and established Gunasheela IVF Center at Bangalore. The Centre was the first of its kind in South India, equipped with the best reproductive technology the world had to offer at that time. Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela’s first IVF baby was born on the fifth of December 1988 thus began the ART of creating mothers. The following years saw the good Doctor assisting many, many couples to successfully bring a child to term. This visionary and pioneer became the prominent infertility specialist. And thousands of hopeful couples sought her aid. All the while, research continued… All the while, the number of women experiencing the ineffable joy of motherhood increased. New developments, new breakthroughs and new infrastructure were just around the corner. Now, the next generation stepped up, and began the initiative of taking the Gunasheela IVF Centre to the next level. Dr. Devika Gunasheela, daughter of and successor to Dr. Sulochana, joined the practice.

Dr. Devika Gunasheela

Dr. Devika Gunasheela is Medical Director at Gunasheela Group, Bangalore, India. A super specialist in infertility, a Fellow in Reproductive Medicine, and a Member of the Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dr. Devika returned from the UK in 2000 and was the recipient of the vast storehouse of knowledge that Dr. Sulochana had to offer. Training under her mother’s guidance, Dr. Devika began to push the boundaries. Joining Dr. Devika in her effort to carry forward the remarkable work started by her mother was Dr. Rajsekhar Nayak, her partner both in medical practice and in life. With an MS in general surgery from Bangalore Medical College, he then studied abroad, returning from England in the year 2000, as a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Edinburgh and Glasgow. A renowned Hepatobiliary Surgeon and an able administrator, he has been the backbone of all the new development taking place in the hospital. He has elevated the surgical standards of the hospital to be on par with the rest of the world. Twelve intense years of working with Dr. Sulochana provided the impetus for them to explore new avenues and innovations. Together, they began to upgrade the Gunasheela IVF Centre to global standards. Gunasheela IVF Centre takes pride to report the 1st In Vitro Maturation (IVM) baby in India in 2003 and 5th Baby in the world by Vitrification of IVM oocytes in the world – 2011. And reported the first twin babies in the South India with advanced time-laps imaging system “EmbryoScope” in 2012. EmbryoScope allows to embryologists to identify the best quality embryos which are developmentally competent to implant based on inbuilt morpho- kinetics mathematical predictive algorithms. Further, she is the first to introduce in-house Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology to India for Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnostics (PGD). PGS and PGD help to further identify genetically normal euploid embryos for transfer. 1988 to 2020: The 28-year-old saga of helping women enjoy motherhood continues. 45 solid years of research. Over 50,000 couples treated, and, over 15000 babies delivered, to the incredible joy of their parents. A staggering success rate of over 50 percent!
