Dr. Devika Gunasheela
Dr. Devika Gunasheela is Medical Director at Gunasheela Group, Bangalore, India. A super specialist in infertility, a Fellow in Reproductive Medicine, and a Member of the Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dr. Devika returned from the UK in 2000 and was the recipient of the vast storehouse of knowledge that Dr. Sulochana had to offer. Training under her mother’s guidance, Dr. Devika began to push the boundaries. Joining Dr. Devika in her effort to carry forward the remarkable work started by her mother was Dr. Rajsekhar Nayak, her partner both in medical practice and in life. With an MS in general surgery from Bangalore Medical College, he then studied abroad, returning from England in the year 2000, as a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Edinburgh and Glasgow. A renowned Hepatobiliary Surgeon and an able administrator, he has been the backbone of all the new development taking place in the hospital. He has elevated the surgical standards of the hospital to be on par with the rest of the world. Twelve intense years of working with Dr. Sulochana provided the impetus for them to explore new avenues and innovations. Together, they began to upgrade the Gunasheela IVF Centre to global standards. Gunasheela IVF Centre takes pride to report the 1st In Vitro Maturation (IVM) baby in India in 2003 and 5th Baby in the world by Vitrification of IVM oocytes in the world – 2011. And reported the first twin babies in the South India with advanced time-laps imaging system “EmbryoScope” in 2012. EmbryoScope allows to embryologists to identify the best quality embryos which are developmentally competent to implant based on inbuilt morpho- kinetics mathematical predictive algorithms. Further, she is the first to introduce in-house Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology to India for Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnostics (PGD). PGS and PGD help to further identify genetically normal euploid embryos for transfer. 1988 to 2020: The 28-year-old saga of helping women enjoy motherhood continues. 45 solid years of research.
